16th to 2nd in WoO Back to Class Showdown at Mississippi Thunder

In what could prove to be a pivotal race in his chase for the series championship, Bobby charged through the field from his 16th starting spot to finish second in the 50-lap Back to Class Showdown World of Outlaws Series race Friday night at Mississippi Thunder (WI) Speedway. For just the second time in WoO competition and fourth time overall this season, Bobby qualified outside the top ten as he timed in 22nd fastest of the 30 cars on hand. “I was very down in the dumps for sure after qualifying,” Bobby said. “We missed it, I missed it pretty bad. We just missed the setup a little bit. The track was pretty hard tonight.” Starting eighth in his heat race, he moved up to sixth to grab the final transfer position for the feature. He had his work cut out for him in the main event starting in the eighth row with a risk of losing significant series points. Reaching the top ten on lap 14, Bobby ran into a slowing car ahead of him. As a result, his right-front tire went flat and his right-side door was crushed. “I had nowhere to go,” Bobby said. “I thought that ended our night, but the crew did a great job getting this thing pieced back together, got the tire on it. The door was like dragging the ground, but they did the best job they could.” After pitting, Bobby rejoined the field in the back. From there, he was banging the boards and bringing the sparklers in his pursuit of the front. He was second by lap 43 but was unable to get the lead over the remaining laps. “It was a very, very, fine treacherous line up there,” Bobby said. “That’s the kind of stuff I like. I’m just going to go send it… Just awesome to salvage a great points night out of this.” On a night that put Bobby in a precarious position of having to rally from the back to avoid losing points, he extended his series points lead to 122 with ten races remaining.
